Wrapping Up in a Blanket Scarf OOTD and How Shipra got her Groove Back || TSD Lookbook Chapter VIII
Hello Beautiful People!
Being an adult was going to be hard, I knew that. The level of difficulty was what I was blindly unaware of. For as long as I can remember, I wanted to grow up and have a “big girl” job.
I wanted to get up early in the mornings and get dressed up in business
attire, like my mom does. I wanted to walk out the door ready to
conquer anything and everything that came my way, also like my mom. In reality, she just made this monotony look way too easy and falsely exciting. I never realized these daily adult tasks would be so draining, and I definitely was not prepared to perform them every single day without a break.
It’s like clockwork. I wake up at 5AM (but let’s be honest, I snooze my
alarm until 5:30ish), and I have to shower and get ready under 15
minutes because I’m already running late. I leave my house by 6AM and
get to work around 7:45AM. I work 8 hours, sometimes more, and I usually
get home by 6:30PM because of the rush hour traffic. I eat dinner and
try getting to the gym, and I knock out by 9:30PM. REPEAT.
Don’t
get me wrong, I am extremely grateful to have a job. For the most part,
I really do enjoy my time at work. I have great friends. I don’t
necessarily like Corporate America, but that’s a rant for another time.
However, I am still not confident that I am ready to sign off my energy, free time, and hobbies for the sake of this 9 to 5. Because of my “big girl” job, I lost the will power to take part in activities that interest me. Instead, I have been drudging
through this monotonous lifestyle, but enough is enough. I am done
losing my energy over something that should not rule my life. I am
taking back control.
The
one thing that has always kept me going is fashion. I love the
creativity and individuality associated with style. If my outfits look
good, my mood is instantly uplifted. Since work requires me to wake up a
little too early for my liking, most days I am not even awake enough to
think about my outfit choice as I’m getting dressed. The only times my
outfits are acceptable for my fashion sense are if I plan them ahead of
time. That also does not happen too often. To help me out of this rut, I
wanted to get back into fashion and blogging. On one rare occasion, I actually had some time to myself and I sat at home planning outfits
for work, for this blog, and for some PR and red carpet events I have
coming up. Somehow I was not tired anymore, and the lethargy turned into
motivation.
That’s
when I realized it – the key to escaping the repetitiveness and
dreariness of daily life as a young adult. In the midst of the hectic
work schedules and crumbling social lives, make sure to dedicate some
quality time for yourself. Don’t lose the “me time”. It’s what’s going
to keep your sanity intact.
Trust me on this. Indulge your time in the hobbies of your choice. If
you don’t have one, find one. Dedicating even a fraction of your time
to something you full-heartedly
enjoy will ensure that you don’t get caught up in the adult world
vortex of tedium and despair. This realization was how I got my groove
back.
