What to Wear To A Wedding: Look Ideas For Every Season

Attending a wedding and feeling stuck on what to wear? I’ve been there! So, over the past few years of busy wedding seasons, I’ve gathered a few tips and tricks to make my life a lot easier when planning my wedding guest looks, whether it’s a sunny summer ceremony or a cosy winter celebration. Check out my top seasonal style tips and outfit ideas below:

Spring 

I adore Spring weddings, the flowers are in full bloom and the sun might just make an appearance! However, the weather is unpredictable in the UK and therefore I have a few go-to’s for spring wedding guest looks:

1. Pastels, please!

I love a pretty dress and I find pastels to be an elegant, understated and classic choice for any formal occasion. There are endless options in terms of cut, style, colour, length and vibe; from long sleeve wrap dresses to classic A-Lines. Nude or metallic shoes go great with pastel outfits, elongating your legs and keeping all eyes on your outfit. 2. Slip Dresses 

A slip dress is almost always the answer to every woman’s needs. Its simplicity and sheer elegance make it the ultimate Spring wedding guest go-to. They also look lovely under a cardigan for those cooler moments. Find some of my favourites below:

3. Suited for the occasion

Suits are just so versatile. They come in different styles, shapes and cuts so you can dress them up, dress them down depending on the type of wedding, and – more importantly –  find the perfect suit for you! Recently, I wore this gorgeous (and very affordable!) sleeveless, fuschia suit. The cut was simple and ideal for all weathers, but the bold colour added that lovely uplifting Spring feel I loved.

Summer

1. Linen, linen, linen

For a summer wedding, I reach for a flowing dress or something linen like this Pretty Woman’s-esque set in light brown (always keep the colours light in Summer and Spring!) Linen is my go-to for the summer. Its thick texture makes any look feel elevated and chic but it’s also perfect for keeping cool. I accessorise with some gold jewellery and strappy sandals or kitten heels. Just a tip: carry a travel-size fabric refresher spray to keep your linen looking crisp all day!

2. Flower galore

Florals are a wedding season staple! If you know me, you know I adore florals. This gorgeous LK Bennet floral dress with its beautiful balloon sleeves is perfect for an elegant summer event. 3. Elegant Sunglasses

Wearing sunglasses at a summer wedding can be both stylish and practical on a sunny day. Opt for something classic to keep the focus on your dress – my faves are the Rayban Wayfarers – or go for something bold, like a cat-eye, if your outfit is more understated.

Autumn

1. Statement jewellery. I’ll always be wearing statement gold jewellery. Think large, bold earrings or a stunning necklace that brings light to the rich fall colours of your makeup and look.

2. I’m a huge fan of wearing a jumpsuit to a wedding. They are ideal for an October or November wedding as they provide comfort, warmth and you can boogie the night away without any worry! Darker hues like deep green, rich burgundy or classic black are my go-tos: super flattering and bang on the seasonal vibe.

3. Keep the blazers oversized. The structured look of the blazer adds a touch of sophistication that’s ideal for transitioning from ceremony to reception. For a glamorous, polished look, hang the blazer or jacket casually over your shoulders. This look works best on tailored dresses or fitted jumpsuits as it creates a beautiful silhouette whilst keeping you cosy if it gets cold!

Winter

1. A classic for winter: Navy Blue. Navy is always a safe bet for any casual or dressy wedding. It is so versatile, looks elegant on everyone and is unerringly flattering. Dressing in darker hues for a winter wedding is a seasonal must: the elegance and sense of luxury just work perfectly with the Winter backdrop.

2. Velvet = Glamour! Winter weddings are, as it says on the tin, rather cold! Therefore, I choose warmer, thicker fabrics like velvet, wool and cashmere. Think luxurious dresses in deep jewel tones or a stunning velvet set. Whether you go for a tailored dress or a chic co-ord, velvet brings the glam factor.

3. When it gets chilly… There is nothing worse than having the perfect guest outfit ruined by having to put a clunky jumper or your partner’s suit jacket over your ensemble in the freezing UK winters! To avoid this, I always carry an elegant pashmina, silk, wool or linen wrap in a lovely neutral tone – cream, beige or camel – to ensure I can chat and boogie all night long!
